A catalogue raisonné is the authentic record of an artist's entire body of work.

Typically, a catalogue raisonné is prepared to preserve the integrity of an artist's work against forgery and misrepresentation. Jacob Lawrence's work has been the subject of two catalogues raisonnés. Jacob Lawrence: Paintings, Drawings, and Murals (1935-2000) / A Catalogue Raisonné, by Peter T. Nesbett and Michelle DuBois (University of Washington Press, 2000) is one volume of the two-volume set The Complete Jacob Lawrence. The book documents more than 900 artworks, many of them published for the first time. Jacob Lawrence: The Complete Prints (1963-1999) / A Catalogue Raisonné, by Peter T. Nesbett (Francine Seders Gallery, Seattle, 2001), is the 2nd edition of a catalogue published under a similar title in 1993. It contains all the known limited edition prints by the artist.
