Objectives:
  • Students understand how a single image—a self-portrait—can tell a story.
  • Students create a self-portrait that tells a story about who they are, what they like to do, and what is important to them.
  • Students raise and investigate art historical questions about Jacob Lawrence's life and work.
  • Students write an interpretive essay for a particular audience based on what they've learned about Jacob Lawrence in all three lessons and in their own research.
